Why Weight Creeps Back Explained: Dallas Hypnotist Valerie Grimes and Weight Loss.

When someone drop 50 pounds and then adds it back, clinical studies show the body is in a biologically altered state and it is hard to get in shape and stay in shape.

When we witness someone doing this repeatedly, we are inclined to assume they don’t have the will power or lack discipline to keep it off.  Dr. Proietto of Melbourne Australia was puzzled by his patient’s inability to lose weight and keep it off, so he conducted a year long study on how the body experiences weight loss. He found that the hormones associated with hunger and metabolism were significantly changed compared to the pre-diet levels.

Study findings:

  • The hunger hormone Ghrelin was up 20%
  • Peptide YY, which suppresses hunger, was down.
  • Some people carry a gene that makes it hard for them to stay slim.

What do you think happens when a doctor informs a patient that they “have a gene that is keeping them overweight?”“It could be self fulfilling…” states weight loss hypnotist Valerie Grimes, “…if one presumes that being fat is their destiny in life, perhaps the next thought is ‘there is no use in fighting it.’  However, I feel the doctor neglected to take into account the way in which the dieters in the study, lost the weight. They were on a 500-calorie a day diet for 30 days, which would throw off our biological state, when we drop to that low of calorie intake, the body’s protective mechanism (which prevents starvation) gets triggered, so adding weight back is a natural response. There are two choices:

  1. I’m overweight and have a gene that doesn’t allow me to be trim OR
  2. I’m overweight and I’ll do what it takes to get in shape and stay in shape
