You are what you eat? Health Tips for Weight Loss #4, What Do You Eat?

In doing research for this presentation I found out the history of the phrase, “you are what you eat.” It started in 1826 by this man:

Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote, in Physiologie du Gout, ou Meditations de Gastronomie Transcendante, 1826:

“Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es.” [Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are].

So if that old adage is true then I’m lentils, mixed berries, rice protein powder, almonds, chocolate, beets, sweet potatoes, bananas, lettuce and avocado mostly.  What are you made of?

Dr. Gillian McKeith and her book, You Are What You Eat – The Book, states: Food affects all of these cells, and by extension, every aspect of our being: mood, energy levels, food cravings, thinking capacity, sex drive, sleeping habits and general health. If you feed your body junk and convenience foods it’ll simply lay down fat, lower your energy, even your brain power. Link to the book.

I think to help determine whether that is true for you is to write down your foods for a couple of weeks and examine them daily. Then bring awareness to how you feel throughout your day. Next eat different types of foods for a couple of weeks and notice whether you are the same, worse or better.

When changing your diet there are certain foods to avoid.
