SCIENTIFIC STUDIES PROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HYPNOSIS FOR SMOKING CESSATION.

I recently read an article in a Dallas University employee health magazine that stated, “M. D. Anderson has a 44% success rate for its smoking cessation program.”  Before you accept those numbers as a rationalization for why you couldn’t quit, please read the scientific studies below that incorporate hypnosis into a smoking cessation program and increase the success rate to 86% – 90.6%.

Hypnosis for stopping smoking involves:

  • Changing the habit/routines
  • Eliminating withdraw symptoms
  • Exploring and transforming psychological factors

Using hypnosis for stop smoking addresses these areas to obtain the goal of being a non-smoker but it can take a while. So, keeping someone committed and motivated throughout the program is key. Hypnosis can really make a difference in this area since smoking cessation with hypnosis can be very quick and simple for one client but quite complex for another.

The reason for stopping smoking must be stronger than the reason to smoke.

Hypnosis works to weaken the dependency for the cigarette and strengthens the desire for the benefits of stopping smoking.  This is accomplished by creating concepts that are seen, felt and experienced while in a hypnotic state.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES USING HYPNOSIS TO STOP SMOKING

Of 43 consecutive patients undergoing this treatment protocol, 39 reported remaining abstinent from tobacco use at follow-up (6 months to 3 years post-treatment). This represents a 90.6% success rate using hypnosis.

A field study of 93 male and 93 female CMHC outpatients examined the facilitation of smoking cessation by using hypnosis. At 3-month follow-up, 86% of the men and 87% of the women reported continued abstinence from the use of tobacco using hypnosis.
