Being grateful can lift you out of a bad mood like a magic pill.

Why is that?

Well it is simple brain chemistry; the chemical response in the brain to a thought or emotion.

Being grateful when you feel badly isn’t easy, easy solutions never are. They seem ‘too easy’ and we as humans are wired to make things harder than they need to be. I don’t have a clear answer to why that is however I suspect it is our upbringing (at least the generation born before 1970).

Our newest Podcast.

Back to gratitude and how to bust out of your current bad mood.

hypnosis for health and happinessThere are many books about the importance of gratefulness and having an grateful heart, so I am really just reminding you here to do that each day.

If you can’t think of anything to be grateful for you can borrow this poem, perhaps it will nudge you:

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

So if you could stop and close your eyes and think or imagine one thing you are grateful for right now, smile and breathe then you could change the chemistry in your brain, release those endorphins that make you feel good.

I suggest doing this as soon as you awake. Gratitude for the bed, roof, flushing toilet, it is really pretty easy to be thankful for what we have when we remember that we have those things and most of the world does not.

Remember to be grateful, your mood will improve and an improved mood improves your health and your opportunities in life.

I’m Valerie Grimes, the Happy Hypnotist in Dallas wishing you a happier and healthier life. Remember to smile.
